DSyms for LT2004 Help File
|
Introduction
DSyms Help File •
Version 4.0
DSYMS v4.0 is a complete and full menu replacement for AutoCAD LT2004, geared towards the 2D ARCHITECTURAL and Interiors disciplines. It is designed to add a whole collection of routines, and enhancements, to the Basic AutoCAD LT menu.
The package includes the Main Menu File which contains expanded Pull Down Menu routines (organized to match the basic AutoCAD LT menu to minimize learning curve); all symbols required by new routines; a whole collection of new toolbars, Hatch Patterns (Architectural mostly, organized by type and with no weird cryptic names) and fonts we have collected and written over the years; an entire architectural symbols library (all symbols available from pop-up screens or in Autodesk Design Center, or ADC); an HTML based Help File that is hyperlinked to give you instant and direct access; redefined quick commands list giving you access to almost every command and system variable; and dimensioning setups and routines.
New routines and toolbars added and improved include:
· Walls (with automatic and manual clean up features);
· Openings inWalls (with or without frames);
· Doors and Windows routines (Different doors and windows type, with or without breaking walls lines);
· Expanded Purge commands;
· Single pick Layer Freeze, Lock, Unlock and Delete and more, PaperSpace viewports as well as ModelSpace;
· Hide entities (basically freeze entities, not the Layer(s) they are on, temporarily);
· Preset Drawing Limits;
· Additional Copy, Rotate and Move Rotate routines;
· Copy to Layer and Move to Layer routines;
· Area Calculations and labeling routines;
· Drawing Shapes (Rectangles, squares, triangles);
· easier Block creation and redefinition routines;
· Offset, Break and Fillet expanded options;
· Dimensioning and Plotting setups, editing and routines;
· Hatching routines;
· Text Creation, Auto-numbering and Editing routines;
· Explode to Current Layer routines;
· Notations and Leader routines;
· Date Stamp routines and easy variables settings among other much needed routines.
· Block counting routines.
· Quick Drafting solutions, and more, are available in Pulldown menu options, or as toolbar buttons.
If you are running AutoCAD LT2004 currently on your machine (or network), adding this Menu will in no way tax or burden your current hardware (runs inside AutoCAD LT, not on top of it like other programs), and the learning curve is not at all painful.
AutoCAD LT is not stripped down AutoCAD, but its own CADD program that is 100% compatible with AutoCAD and all its variations and flavors. Therefore, you will find that most programming features found here will not work with AutoCAD R14, R2000-R2004 Autodesk Architectural Desktop, Autodesk Mechanical Desktop, or any other Autodesk product or AutoCAD Compatible product except Autodesk AutoCAD LT2004. A version of this menu for AutoCAD R14/R2000-R2004 (and all their variations) and higher may be available separately. Email for details and pricing at products@pendean.com .
Note: If you received this product free as a download and did not pay for it, then this is a limited, free version to see if anyone out there is interested in such a product. If you are using a version of LT earlier than LT2004, this menu may not work, or some of the routines may not be available. Later versions may work (but not guaranteed), but by then we should have specific product for the later versions (check our web site for details on later versions of AutoCAD LT support at http://www.pendean.com ).
The Shareware version is basically the Standard Version, minus the symbols and custom routines, that you will have to buy to use. NOT AL FEATURES ARE ACTIVE.
Customization is available, for an additional fee, including Layer script Files that conform to AIA Cad Layer Guidelines, second edition (First edition is not available) and your practice's custom blocks available from Pop-up screens. Hope you find most of this File helpful.
System Requirements
DSyms Help File •
Version 4.0
DSYMS requires AutoCAD LT2004. It will not work with earlier versions of AutoCAD LT, or any full version (or flavor of Full Version) of AutoCAD up to version 14.01/R2000-R2004 (and may not work with later versions of Full AutoCAD).
Basically, if you are running AutoCAD LT2004 on your current machine, these additional enhancements will in no way slow you down. The following assumptions are made (happens to also be the minimum hardware requirements, in our opinion, to successfully run AutoCAD LT2004):
· a PENTIUM III 800 minimum;
· 256MB Ram (minimum); 512MB Ram (ideal) for Windows 2000/XPHome/XPPro;
· 1024x768 XGA screen resolution with a 16MB video card minimum (1280x1024 SXGA or better recommended);
· at least 1GB free hard disk space after LT2004 installation (for LT2004 use, not our package which only requires about 50MB);
· a Three Button (or more) Mouse (or 2 Button and roller), although Two Button is acceptable, with no pre-programmed mouse buttons.
Upgrade if you do not have any of the above.
A basic working knowledge of Windows 2000/XPHome/XPPro, AutoCAD LT and how to use the mouse, and key combinations to access menu items is a must. Point and click is nice, but you will find keyboard key combinations quicker at accessing your favorite routines. Please read your User manuals if you are not confident enough. Which versions of Win2000 and WinXP should make no difference here if you are already running AutoCAD LT2004.
Consult with your
network administrator for any kind of network installation needs; it does not
hurt to ask permission first.

Installation Instructions
DSyms Help File •
Version 4.0
If you are using your own developed LT menu File, congratulations; make a backup copy of it first, then follow all of the instructions below.
If you have modified and customized the Basic LT menu, and screen toolbars, the replacement of that menu with this menu will lead to the loss of those customizations. Those customizations are saved in the menu File with the extension MNS: simply access that File, and cut and paste to our replacement menu to keep you treasured customizations at work. Refer to the LT online Help for details.
If you are using a Third Party application with LT, and a modified LT menu, refer to the User manual of that Application for menu modification instructions. Call that Application’s help desk for assistance.
We make additional assumptions:
· you have access to the AutoCAD LT2004 User and Online Manual and User Guide, or similar detailed publications that have a section on editing menu items, and that you will at least glance at them to reference as you read our instructions;
· You are using ACLT.MNS File as your current menu File, with no third party software sitting on top.
· THIS IS IMPORTANT: We also assume that you will make duplicate copies all ACLT.* Files, found in the AutoCAD LT2004 directory and sub-folders, or rename them like ACLT_*.OLD, before you do anything at all. We at PenDean Inc. are not liable for any backup errors or omissions.
To begin Installation, do the following:
Double click on the Application File (DSYMS2k4.EXE) downloaded, or the SETUP.EXE File provided (on the CD for CD purchases), and accept the default PENDEAN folder in the pop-up menu (Usually c:\PenDean). All the necessary Files will be copied (answer YES if prompted to replace older Files).
Start LT2004: and then the OPTIONS command (or under the TOOLS pulldown menu, click on OPTIONS):
·
Click once on the FILES tab from the pop-up screen,
then click once on the + sign next to it, select the line SUPPORT FILES SEARCH
PATH.
Now click the ADD button, then the BROWSE button: you are going to add the
PENDEAN folder to the AutoCAD LT2004 search path. Click on MY COMPUTER, then C:
DRIVE (or where ever you installed the above), select PENDEAN folder, then
click OK.
Repeat the above process and add the SYMPAT folder found under the PENDEAN
folder.
Repeat the above process and add the FONTS folder found under the PENDEAN
folder.
·
Select C:\PENDEAN\FONTS folder, use the Move Up button
and move this entry to the top o the Support Files Search Path list. Repeat for
the C:\PENDEAN\SYMPAT and the C:\PENDEAN entries.
Click OK on the OPTIONS Pop-up screen. You will have to quit AutoCAD LT2004,
and restart for the new search path to take effect. You are now ready to load
the new DSyms Files.
· Start the MENULOAD command.
· Click once on the BROWSE button from the pop-up: you are going to add DSYMS to your current setup;
· Click on MY COMPUTER, then C: DRIVE (or where ever AutoCAD is installed), then PENDEAN FOLDER, then DSYMS.MNU file (make sure the MNU file type is part of the search file type), then click OK. DSYMS2k4.MNU is also valid for a selection if you don’t find the first one.
· You will get a new prompt pop-up about loading MNU files, click OK.
· Now you are back at the MENULOAD pop-up: select DSYMS from the MENU Groups window, then click on the MENU BAR tab.
· Now click on DSYMS in the MENUS window or the left hand side, then select a location for DSYMS on the right hand side Window: click on the INSERT>> button. Click OK to quit MENULOAD.
·
You should see the new DSYMS pulldown menu and new
toolbars appear on your screen.
If not, quit Autocad LT, go to the Autocad LT folder and delete DSYMS.MNS,
DSYMS.MNR and DSYMS.MNC. Do not delete DSYMS.MNU. Now restart Autocad LT. All
should be working well.
·
All our toolbars are set to ON: this is a minor
inconvenience for you initially, but helps expose you to all the toolbars and
toolbar buttons we have created for your use. Please review each one, and
switch off the ones you do not need.
To gain access to any toolbars, you can use the TOOLBAR command in AutoCAD
LT2004, or just right-click on any toolbar button anywhere and select new
toolbars to show, or hide.
Note: if for any reason you get a lot of blank/empty toobar button faces with ? marks on the toolbar buttons we added, then the installation instructions above were not followed exactly. Repeat the entire process, and double check all the paths and folders/Files locations throughout.
